School Specialist

Audience/Who Should Register: Local Health Jurisdiction (LHJ) and state employees who will be working as school specialists for COVID-19.

Length of Course: 3-4 hours of self-paced, online self-study and 4 hours (one half day) of live webinars and skill development activities. The online self-study must be completed before coming to the live training.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand basic epidemiological principles of pediatric COVID-19.
  • Understand the basic structure and roles and responsibilities of schools and local health departments (LHD).
  • Identify and navigate the essential federal and state policies and guidance for COVID-19.
  • Learn how to respond to basic questions from schools and know when to triage to other members of the LHD.
  • Understand the basic principles of outbreak prevention and data management.
  • Learn how to communicate effectively with school districts.

Language Offerings: The course is offered only in English at this time.

Records of Completion: Learners must complete and pass the knowledge assessment with a minimum score of 70% to receive a record of completion.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs): UCSF Pandemic Initiative for Equity and Action is an approved provider of continuing education by the California State Board of Registered Nurses, Provider Number CEP 17635. This training is approved for 8 continuing education hours (0.8 CEUs). Board requirements prevent us from offering CE credit to people who arrive more than 15 minutes after the start of the training, or leave the training early. Therefore, partial credit will not be awarded.
