Outbreak Management

Audience/Who Should Register: Local Health Jurisdiction (LHJ) and state employees who will be working in the area of outbreak management of COVID-19.

Length of Course: 4 hours of online self-study and 8 hours of live virtual skill development activities across 2 days

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe a systematic approach to outbreak management.
  • Analyze and interpret line lists, epidemic curves, and other outbreak-related data.
  • Think critically about challenges likely to be encountered during outbreaks.
  • Develop strategies for effective communication and collaboration with site liaisons and key stakeholders involved in location-based outbreaks.
  • Identify and utilize essential guidelines, standard operating procedures, and data collection tools necessary to guide outbreak management in different settings.

Language Offerings: The course is offered only in English at this time.

Records of Completion: Learners must complete and pass the knowledge assessment with a minimum score of 70% to receive a record of completion.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs): UCSF Pandemic Initiative for Equity and Action is an approved provider of continuing education by the California State Board of Registered Nurses, Provider Number CEP 17635. This training is approved for up to 13 continuing education hours. Board requirements prevent us from offering CE credit to people who arrive more than 15 minutes after the start of the training, or leave the training early. Therefore, partial credit will not be awarded.

How to Register:

1. Create an account on the VTA+ website by clicking on Registration below and clicking on Create new account button when you arrive at the site. Note: If you already have an account, enter your VTA+ website username and password and click on Log in.  

2. Click on the Outbreak Management course title, then click on Enroll me to enroll into that VTA+ course.

3. Once enrolled into the Outbreak Management course, click on Step 1. Register Now, to view the dates for available sessions. Click on Register to register for the date you are available. 



Please Note: Prior to registering for the course, you will need to register for the VTA+ Learning Management System.

To do so, please click the blue ‘Create new account’ button when you arrive at the site.
