Case Investigation & Contact Tracing Course

Audience/Who Should Register: Local Health Jurisdiction (LHJ) and state employees who will be working as case investigators (CI) or contact tracers (CT).

Length of Course: 4 hours of online self-study and 8 hours of live virtual skill development activities across 2 days.

Learning Objectives:

  • Effectively communicate standardized recommendations and policies about isolation, quarantine, testing, and social support
  • Confidently read standardized CI and CT interview scripts
  • Apply motivational interviewing and health coaching techniques during CI and CT interviews
  • Apply best practices of maintaining confidentiality

Language Offerings: The course is offered in English with an optional practice session available in Spanish.

Records of Completion: Learners must complete the Pre-Course Survey, pass the Self-Study Post Assessment with a minimum score of 80% (unlimited attempts), and submit the Post-Course Survey in order to receive a record of completion. 

Continuing Education Units (CEUs): UCSF Pandemic Initiative for Equity and Action is an approved provider of continuing education by the California State Board of Registered Nurses, Provider Number CEP 17635. This training is approved for up to 16 continuing education hours. Board requirements prevent us from offering CE credit to people who arrive more than 15 minutes after the start of the training or leave the training early. Therefore, partial credit will not be awarded.

How to Register:
1. Create an account on the VTA+ website by clicking on Registration below and clicking on Create new account button when you arrive at the site. Note: If you already have an account, enter your VTA+ website username and password and click on Log in.  

2. Click on the Case Investigation & Contact Tracing course title, then click on Enroll me to enroll into that VTA+ course.

3. Once enrolled into the Case Investigation & Contact Tracing course, click on Registration to view the dates for available sessions. Click on Register to register for the date you are available. 

4. After registering, you will receive an email identifying your pending enrollment. Enrollment will be confirmed by the program team one week before training dates and you will receive an official confirmation at that time.
